The State Archive has the right free of charge to one specimen copy of any works or publications that make substantial reference to its holdings.
When publishing archive or photographic material, reference must be made to its origin (State Archive of the Canton of Bern). In addition, the published archival materials must be cited using the abbreviation StABE followed by the exact reference number.

In the case of photographs, where the name of the photographer is not included in the reference number, the photographer’s name should also be cited, if at all possible.
